Should My Child Play 7v7 Football

South Shore Select 7v7 (TRIPLE-S) is a development program in the South Shore area of Hillsborough County, FL that helps players perfect their craft and enhance their overall knowledge of the sport of football. We invite whoever wants to be great to tryout and join our organization. Our ultimate goals are to instill the mental and physical tools that will direct these student athletes on the path to becoming overall great citizens in their respective communities. 7v7 is a competitive off-season component that requires total commitment, and a relentless work ethic on and off the field. By learning proper technique, performing numerous reps, and competing against top elite talent, our student athletes return to their respective youth and or high school programs a better football player, teammate and model citizen. Our program also prepares for College camps, combines and other Allstar events, where multiple number of players have received offers to institutes of higher learning. Players that have the desire to become a great student athlete, and parents that have the desire for their sons to become great football players should tryout for the Triple-S 7v7 programs.

Why are there two tryouts?

There are two tryouts (Dates to be determined). The purpose of doing 2 separate tryouts is to get information out to families that will participate in the lengthy off-season program. It’s a must that players come to both tryout dates so they will be better evaluated. We do understand the some kids may only make it to 1 day. Our first tournament is the end of February. It might be a financial streak when a player gets on the team Mid-December and is asked to make a payment a few weeks later. But its a investment in your childʼs future. Expectation is that new players will attend both days of tryouts. ALL PLAYERS MUST REGISTER AND ATTEND TRYOUTS. RETURNING PLAYERS MUST TRYOUT ALSO. TRYOUTS ARE FREE RATHER YOU COME 1 DAY OR BOTH DAYS.

How much does it cost?

Our season fee varies per year. The season fee covers position training, practice, uniforms, tournament costs, transportation in vans or charter buses, lodging, and administrative costs. Players must cover their own travel expenses. Meaning, if they want to buy snacks at the gas station, hotel, or a fast food restaurant while we are traveling to and from tournaments they must cover those expenses. We will provide at least one meal for the players during one day tournaments. The team will provide transportation at the destination and lodging, should a tournament be beyond a specific radius to our practice locations. The cost for the 2020 Season will be discussed during our first parent/guardian meetings. Some 7v7 Travel Team fee are free and some are well above $2000 to be apart of their team. The season fee will be broken into payments that will be DUE by specific dates. We will have fundraisers and other Sponsorship opportunities to help offset the cost of any if not all payments for your student athlete that participate. ALL FEES MUST BE PAID BEFORE YOUR STUDENT ATHLETE CAN PARTICIPATE IN A TOURNAMENT. NO REFUNDS.

What is the schedule for the upcoming season?

Beginning in mid November, we will have position specific training on various days (check calendar/social media for posted dates),
and Mandatory practices on Sunday afternoons. We won’t practice every Sunday. The 1st Tournament is in January. The last tournament is usually a National Championship in May, however, should we qualify or be invited to other tournaments, we will continue in June. We’ll decide on those tournaments when the time comes. Tournaments will typically last an entire weekend Friday thru Sunday. Some tournaments will only last for a day. When a college tour is included in the tournament weekend, we will typically leave earlier enough to visit colleges that Friday prior to the tournament. A letter from the college is sent to players to turn in to the high school. Many schools will excuse the absence if visiting colleges. Some do not excuse the absence.

How many colleges do you visit during a season?

The number of colleges that we will visit varies. We’ll touch on this prior to the season/tournament.

How is playing time determined?

Everyone will play during pool play. However, in elimination play, playing time is not guaranteed. The decision for playing time will be made by the head coach/position coach of the specific teams. BUT IF YOU DON'T COME TO PRACTICE, DON'T EXPECT TO JUST SHOW UP AND PLAY.

How far do you travel?

We will compete in tournaments throughout Florida, Georgia, and if earned, we may travel to other states if we can fit it in our budget and schedules.

What is included in the uniform?

Each player will receive two sets of tournament uniforms, a mouthpiece, arm sleeve, and a tracksuit style uniform (will discuss at a later time). Each player will receive a soft shell helmet that must be worn at all times during the tournaments, but will not keep them unless paying a separate fee.

I play another sport, can I still play 7v7?

Absolutely Yes. We encourage our student athletes to cross train and play multiple sports, especially during the early years of ther athletic career. We will receive a copy of the schedule for the other sports, and try to teach the player to become an expert in time management.

Will playing 7v7 get me recruited?

No! The participation in 7v7 alone is not enough for you to get recruited. 7v7 should be used as a tool to get athletes reps and get them better at their specific positions for 11 man football. Having a GPA above 2.5, becoming NCAA qualified, passing SAT/ACT test with qualifying scores, volunteering in the community, while using the proper techniques and gaining improved skills at college camps and having great film during your Fall season, will hopefully be enough to get recruited to the College or University of your choice!

Does TRIPLE-S work with a recruiting service?

No. We do not work with any recruiting services, however, we have connections to academic advisors, school counselors and student athletes that have played various sports at the Collegiate and Professional levels, that you can connect with for their guidance at your leisure. If you do what you need to do in the classroom and on the field, you do not need to pay for recruiting help.

What if my high school coach does not want me to participate with South Shore Select Inc 7v7?

Ultimately the choice is between the student athlete and the parent/guardian. We ask the student athletes to let their HS coaches know that they will be visiting Colleges, Universities and more. We advise the student athletes to also let their respective HS coaches know that they will be getting maximum reps at their skill positions, while playing against elite athletes from all over the state and country. If their respective HS coaches can provide an alternative method for their players to obtain the same quality of reps versus their practice squads, the HS coaches way may be better.

What if I miss the tryout?

You will not be added to any of the teams at a later date. If you think for any reason you may miss the tryout, register for the 1st tryout. You will have another chance to attend if you miss the 1st tryout.

I don't live near the practice location, can I still play for the TRIPLE-S?

In our first season, we've had players from as far as St. Pete and from as far south as Sarasota. As long as you can attend the scheduled and or mandatory practices and tournaments, you can tryout to make one of the teams. We will have a practice schedule for the players that live outside of our area. It is most important that all players arrive early to practices and be picked up promptly by the end of practices.
